Buyer's Moving Out Checklist
Everything you need to do before and after moving into your new home
Before Closing
- Complete final walk-through of the property
- Confirm all agreed-upon repairs have been completed
- Review closing disclosure and confirm all numbers
- Arrange for certified funds or wire transfer for closing costs
- Confirm homeowner's insurance is in place
- Schedule utilities to be transferred to your name on closing day
- Arrange for movers or moving truck
Moving Day
- Collect all keys, garage door openers, and access codes
- Document the condition of the home with photos
- Locate the main water shut-off valve
- Locate the electrical panel and circuit breakers
- Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Change all locks and security codes
- Confirm all appliances are working properly
First Week
- Update your address with the post office
- Update your driver's license and vehicle registration
- Notify your bank, employer, and important contacts of your new address
- Register children in local schools if applicable
- Find local doctors, dentists, and other healthcare providers
- Locate the nearest hospital and urgent care
- Introduce yourself to your neighbors
First Month
- Register to vote at your new address
- Review and update your homeowner's insurance policy
- Set up automatic payments for mortgage, utilities, and HOA fees
- Familiarize yourself with HOA rules and regulations
- Schedule any needed maintenance or improvements
- Explore your new neighborhood and community amenities
