Seller Moving Out Checklist
Everything you need to do before handing over the keys
Before Moving Out
- Remove all personal belongings from the home
- Remove all items from the garage, attic, and storage areas
- Cancel or transfer all utilities (electric, gas, water, internet, cable)
- Cancel or transfer home security monitoring service
- Forward your mail to your new address
- Notify important contacts of your address change
- Return any borrowed items from neighbors
Cleaning & Repairs
- Clean the entire home thoroughly — buyers expect a clean home
- Clean all appliances that are staying with the home
- Clean inside all cabinets and closets
- Complete any repairs agreed upon in the purchase contract
- Remove all trash and debris from the property
- Clean out the garage and sweep the floor
- Ensure the yard is neat and tidy
Items to Leave Behind
- All keys — front door, back door, mailbox, storage, etc.
- All garage door openers and remotes
- All gate and community access cards or fobs
- Appliance manuals and warranties
- Any touch-up paint left over from the home
- HOA documents, rules, and contact information
- Alarm system codes and instructions
Final Steps
- Do a final walk-through of every room
- Check all closets, cabinets, and storage areas one last time
- Confirm all agreed-upon items are left for the buyer
- Turn off all lights and lock all doors and windows
- Take meter readings for your records
- Hand over all keys and access items at closing
