A guide to preparing your home for showings
In order to sell your home for the best possible price, it is crucial to make sure it looks its best, inside and out. We have prepared a checklist for you to use that lists easy things you can do to improve a buyer's first impression of your home. Go through it before you list your home and again immediately prior to every open house or showing.
Exterior / Curb Appeal
- Mow, edge, and trim the lawn
- Trim bushes and remove dead plants
- Add fresh mulch or decorative rock to flower beds
- Power wash driveway, walkways, and exterior walls
- Clean or repaint the front door
- Replace or polish house numbers and door hardware
- Clean windows inside and out
- Remove clutter from yard, porch, and garage
Interior — General
- Deep clean every room from top to bottom
- Declutter and remove personal photos and excess furniture
- Neutralize odors — no pets, smoke, or strong cooking smells
- Replace burned-out light bulbs and maximize lighting
- Touch up paint on walls, trim, and doors
- Clean or replace worn carpets and flooring
- Organize closets — buyers will look inside
- Make all beds and keep bedrooms tidy
Kitchen
- Clear countertops of all but a few decorative items
- Clean appliances inside and out
- Degrease range hood and stovetop
- Clean inside the refrigerator
- Organize pantry and cabinets
- Replace worn cabinet hardware if needed
Bathrooms
- Deep clean all fixtures, tile, and grout
- Replace old caulking around tub and shower
- Add fresh towels and remove personal items
- Clear countertops
- Ensure all fixtures are in good working order
